On February 9th the S&P 500 Index surpassed 5,000 points for the first time despite the nearly US$6trillion sitting on the sidelines. The rally continued from there as the index finished the month with a gain of more than 5% for just the 11th time in the index's history since 1928.
Through the first two months of 2024, the optimistic view I shared with investors on markets has come to fruition. In saying that, I’ve started to detect a noticeable level of cautiousness with the notion of buying U.S. equities while they’re trading at or near all-time highs. In the short term, what can we expect for the rest of the year? If history is any guide, likely higher. Since the 1950s, once the S&P 500 Index had hit anew high, it tends to continue to scale multiple new heights, posting an average return of 14% over the following year.
See attached to read on as I recap financial markets in February, discuss the concentration of the U.S. equity market, and discuss the probabilities of where we go from here.
In closing, regardless of the path ahead for financial markets you canbe confident that you have an investment professional in your corner who is committed to your success.
Thanks for taking time out of your day to become better informed.
